HISTORY Margarida Casas, the daughter heir (pubilla) of the family house Cal Mossons D´Ardèvol married Jaume Tristany, son of a noble family of Carlan knights from Ivorra on 20 March 1631.After this union, the Mossons house was enlarged and, following the custom of the period, took on the name of CAL TRISTANY. In 1703 we find that the third generation of the Tristanys, with Gil Blai Tristany i Farrés, were the heirs (hereu) of the Tristany line, and it is he and his descendents who are recognized to have constructed the new building, a fortified house completely of well-worked stone slabs. It has a gallery which receives the sun at midday and at sunset, and four jutting-out, rounded turrets at the corners. All the construction is of worked stone, the façade and the inner stair well. The pavements of the upper storey are supported by the arches which cover the lower floor. The roof peak of one side faces the setting sun, thus permitting the house to have a basement, which popular fantasy has used to create legends, grown out of the fame acquired by the Tristanys. In front of this building there is a chapel, which, when the house was the Mussons’ family dwelling, was dedicated to Sant Salvador d´Horta. The Tristanys extended and reformed the chapel, raising the arches and dedicating it to Sant Francesc, the traditional saint revered by the family. |
